Kinja'd!!!

Lately I've been seeing all these posts about die-cast and toy cars. It pained me that I couldn't join in because my collection was at my mom's house and I was not. I came back for the holidays and decided to take some pictures of the collection. My gift to you! The full album is here: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

First let me get some stuff out of the way. There was, is, and will be a lot of dust. I cleaned up a bit for the photoshoot but it's really hard to clean these things. If anyone has a quick way of doing so, please let me know. As a result, a lot of cars are kept in boxes and some pictures didn't turn out that well. If you want to see more of a certain model just leave a comment! I also only have a point-and-shoot digital camera, and it's dying on me. That, and "meh" lighting in the room, would make some of you photographer Jalops cry. Lastly, I took closeups of several cars that I deemed Jalop-worthy. And lastly for real, the above photo is just what's in the office/computer room. There are more in my bedroom.

The Car That Started it All

Kinja'd!!!

First generation Corvette, 1:24. This was my gift for graduating kindergarten, which would make this particular model almost two decades old! Amazingly this car survived all those years, and only a few years back my kid cousin broke the dashboard-mounted rearview mirror. After this first acquisiton, the collection grew really quickly and I soon left my small 1:64 cars in their tin boxes - those were for children, I decided. Many of the cars were purchased in stores where you might not have expected to find them: Costco, Loblaws and Superstore (Canadian grocery chain), Giant Tiger. My mom really liked them and started picking them up one after another. When they were sold at those stores they usually went for a good price: $20 or so for 1:24, and $30 for 1:18. After visiting an actual hobby store I saw some identical 1:18 cars being sold for $50 and up.

Anyways, back to the cars. I have quite a few Corvettes now:

Continuing with the 'murica! theme:

Kinja'd!!!

I swear the wheels on that Boss Mustang barely manage to turn. Accurate representation?

Kinja'd!!!

HUMVEE, H1 and H2.

Truck Yeah

I absolutely love model trucks because you can actually put stuff into the beds, drive it to point B, drop it off, and drive it back. Good times.

Kinja'd!!!

Chevy and a Canadian Tire-branded Studebaker.

Kinja'd!!!

Ford: Then and Now (well a few years ago).

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Pardon the Maserati.

Race Cars

Kinja'd!!!

These two were gifts from my sister. I was young and wondered why there was a naked chick on the car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I'm sure a bunch of you just blew your load. Don't worry - so did I.

Kinja'd!!!

The Ford on the left got me to like the Focus and take an interest in rallying. The Ford on the right made me aware of the tuner scene. It's ugly as shit, I know, but I couldn't find my regular SVT Focus (I found it about 5 minutes later, of course).

Bikes

Kinja'd!!!

Jesse James and the American Chopper gang was huge during this time. These are some models of custom bikes that they made.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I saw these cute guys at a store once and couldn't resist. They were like $2.50 each. I also had a Saab 9-5 that I ended up giving to a friend.

Italians

Kinja'd!!!

Top-left is a Gallardo Superleggera. Bottom-right is a Diablo SV.

Kinja'd!!!

I thought I'd have more cars for this section but they're scattered throughout other pictures.

Germans

Kinja'd!!!

SLR McLaren, A-Class, CLS and SL65.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I knew nothing about the Audi wagon until getting the die-cast. It's face is eerily similar to the Veyron's.

Honourable Mentions from the Office Room

I don't want to clutter this page with pictures, so here are some others from this room; the rest are in the imgur album.

Kinja'd!!!

It was really hard to capture the Ford Torino. I've got another image with the flash on... it's a stunning model. It's just a sea of deep, dark blue. I love it.

Kinja'd!!!

During the heyday of Fast & Furious. I've also got an RX-8 but it's missing a spoiler.

Kinja'd!!!

UGH. So Kinja won't let me post the remainder of my cars (everything from my bedroom) in a single post. Now's not the time to complain about Kinja though... so I will post it separately if you guys wanna see it.

Thats one amazing collection. Are they mainly burago and maisto? I used to love maisto until I found AutoArt and Norev.

Thanks! And good to know I'm not the only crazy one. Can't wait to see your stuff, curious how you display them.

Yup, mostly those two brands. They're cheap in price - no way I'd have this many AutoArt models, but I've seen them and I think when I start looking for specific cars I will stick to the "better" companies.

Wow. That is an amazing collection.

I have some 1:18 cars, but nowhere to display most of them, and the supplies for buying them in person have dried up around here... I haven't bitten the bullet to start buying them unseen via internet or catalog.

Costco often has a nice selection.

I had that rally Ford Focus. Of course, being the destructive 4-5 year old I was, it was in pieces shortly thereafter. As were the rest of my models.

That’s quite impressive, nice trove. I recently stumbled across OttOmobile online. I pre-ordered a green e36 Alpina , it was kinda in between Maisto and autoart price wise. I don't get it till Feb, so I'm not sure what to expect, but looked good .
